I love Christmas and Christmas decorations and I start thinking about Christmas in November if not before. But I just can't start the New Year w/ Christmas stuff up - it goes from feeling sparkly and festive and magical and red/green goodness to cluttered. I need to put.it.away. So the weekend after Christmas (before NYE) I got it all back up in the attic - thanks to Kyle. :)
On that note, I have been dying to wrap up 2014 so I can officially move into 2015 as far as the blog goes. So in addition to this post w/ final kid stuff, there are bunch of new posts below - and 2014 is officially in the book!

The Making of a Christmas Card
If there is one picture to describe Rebecca right now it is this one. I can't remember the details of what she was doing when she demanded I take a picture, but it involved, as it always does, her happy entourage friends - Rose Princess, Rosie (panda), the 2 other nameless pandas, Rosalon (in her new karate outfit), and a couple of ninja turtles.
A few other things to remember about R at the end of 2014:
- Her bed looks a lot like the photo above as well - she sleeps with all of these friends (they help her not feel so afraid that E.T. is in her closet (that, and the Veggie Tales song "God is Bigger Than The Boogie Man"). She has also gotten into the habit of sleeping on top of her covers but covered in a large pile of probably 8 sarongs (gifts from Pam from Mexico over time).
- Another little thing we do when she is scared is play "the word game" - I say a word (something I think can't possibly make you think of anything but something happy) and she says the first word that pops into her head. If you want to get to know a kid (and laugh a lot in the process) - you must do this. Unicorn = Broccoli!
- When she "needs" something after I have tucked her in and she comes down stairs she brings Maggie with her. She never admits to it, but I know she is telling her sister to come down too - sometimes even waking her up to do so. I'll ask Rebecca what she needs - water, tucked in, question about tomorrow, another stall tactic. And when I ask Maggie what she needs she just looks confused and says "I not know."
- About two weeks ago Kyle was walking past the couch and saw something small and white in between two of the seat cushions. When he reached in to see what it was he was surprised to find a raw egg - fully intact. Rebecca just thought it would be funny...
- It's my birthday (when she wants something, and it is NOT her birthday - this may happen for several days in a row)
- I just jokin' (especially when she is about to get in trouble for something)
- You got buggies in your nose? (as she picks hers)
- Say it with me! Say it louder! (a favorite chant)
- Ooooh, comfy and cozy (I think I must stay this a lot)
- Breakfast and shows? (The last question she asks at bedtime ever night - about what she'll do in the morning)
- Andres (anless) = boy
- Hmmmmm...I don't think so (To herself, for no reason, with her fingers on her chin)
- Splarkly (likes to point out anything that is spLarkly)
- Wild Krats - is what Owie would watch (when asked to pick a show - she just picks the one that Owen would watch, even though I think her true favorite is Daniel Tiger - she can sing all of his songs and he has been a tremendous help with several discipline issues recently!)
- Nuffin (Always the answer to the question what are you doing?)
- So, let's talk, what shou(ld) we talk about? Animals? (When its just us and there is a quiet moment).
This boy cannot get enough of Kyle's attention - I have to remind Kyle that this is not because Kyle doesn't give him enough (because he does a GREAT job at time w/ each of his kids) but because Owen has an insatiable appetite for it! His favorites right now - battleship, "high stakes" UNO (which we can do w/ Rebecca too and sort of Maggie) and riding his new bike (with gears and a kickstand - big time).
Okay, team, that's all I've got. It's our first week back in school after the holiday break and I am spent! Farewell 2014!
