2 month update

Just got back from the pediatrician for Owen's 2 year old appt and Rebecca's 2 month old appt. Both got 2 shots but did fine.

Rebecca:
12.5 lb 75-90th percentile
23 in 75-90th percentile

Owen:
31.5 lb 75-90th percentile
35.4 in 75-90th percentile.

I guess we know what percentile our babies fall into!

The Big Owen Update

Here are our favorite photos from Owen's 2-year old photo session. (I apologize for the orientation of these photos-they're scanned and I can't figure out how to rotate them).

He'll probably hate us for this one some day. It's his "kissy face" and well, what can we say...Here is our little MAN! He looks soooo grown up to us here! Wow...the time really has flown by!
This smile just makes my heart melt.
Okay, so here is the rambling update of all that he is doing/saying these days...it's why you're here, I know. :) Most of these things are probably not really amazing, but they are either funny or memorable or something to us.

-"I need tape" or "I need batteries" when something is broken. The first time he said this we were totally in shock.

-"I see no ______". I especially like "I see no Mopac train" (when we're on the highway and the train isn't running.)

-In response to Pam greeting him in the morning and saying she was ready for some coffee: "I'm ready for juice."

-"Oh Brother!"

-"Listen Momma! I hear something!" (He likes to precede lots of statements with "Listen ____". now)

-"I do by myself"...about everything.

-"I hear music!!!!!" (listening to Grandpa Stan's ipod through the ear-buds which was a new treat and I think thoroughly surprised him--hey, there's music in these little things!) Now almost every time he sees my phone he says he wants to hear music. That or he wants to draw lady-bugs (the Doodle-Budy app that Kyle and I both have--awesome for toddlers in a pinch)!

-When he saw me with unruly, curly, bed-hair before I straighted it one morning: "Wha happen Momma hair? Fix it Momma! Fix it!"

-He is good at giving us directions (or repeating directions we've at some point given him). After a bath yesterday: "Floor all wet. Slippery--be careful!" After seeing a spider with Dadda: "Momma, no eat spiders."

-In response to the question "how old are you?" Owen usually answer "1, 2, 3!" because he likes to count to three.

-Since his birthday he has requested we sing "Happy Birthday" at bedtime a few times. I think it's because he's figured out that that song is almost always followed by cake. Smart boy!

-I let him sit in the driver's seat of our car the other day while I was loading some stuff up (don't worry, it was off and I had the keys). Ever since then he tells me it's "my turn to drive" and gets upset when I tell him that in fact, no, it's momma or dadda's turn to drive. Speaking of driving...we were loading everybody in the car out in the rain after eating dinner out the other night and Kyle put Owen in his seat but got distracted and didn't buckle him in. About 2 minutes after hitting the road, we hear Owen talking but seemingly from further away... "I in backseat now! I in backseat now!" We looked back and there he was--in the 3rd row of the van, happy as a clam, trying to buckle the big boy seat belt.

-Songs/Poems: He is becoming quite the literary/musical enthusiast thanks to Pam. She has him finishing the lines to 15+ songs and poems. Everything from "Twinkle Twinkle" and "You are my Sunshine" to "The Fog" by Carl Sandburg and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost. It's hysterical to listen to. My dad keeps promising he'll get it on video for me since its usually when they're babysitting and I'm not there. So, feel free to send him hatemail until he gets me a video that I can post...

All in all, two is so much fun--we love our little guy and can't wait to see how he grows over the next year!

FYI: There are 3 other new posts below this one all from today. It's a blogfest.

The Farm

After a week of being sick (me, then Owen and pretty much all of the rest of our family, except Kyle who was in Colorado and Rebecca who was miraculously spared) we finally got outside to enjoy some of the beautiful (read: not so blasted HOT) weather we're having! We went with Melissa, Bailey and Nana to Sweetberry Farm in Marble Falls to see some animals, take a hay-ride and do some "pumpkin' huntin'".

Here is sweet Rebecca enjoying her first ever farm experience. She is such a trooper when it comes to car-traveling and eating/sleeping on the go. She makes things as easy as any 2-month old baby can, and we thank her for it!

Here is Owen chasing after Bailey down a field. He liked to walk "on the pillows".
Here he is telling the horse to come "right here". (He seemed really comfortable around the big animals which was great!)
He decided that the mule might be thirsty and offered him some juice from his sippy cup. How nice...and sanitary.
Here we are on the hay-ride. He wouldn't look at the camera because we were sitting right behind the tractor and he couldn't take his eyes off of it. He loved the big wheels.
Owen and the baby goats--Nana's favorite.
Owen the Pumpkin Boy.
Owen and Bailey driving the pumpkin boat. You can see who's in charge here...
Both Owen and Bailey loved to pull the wagons they had available around. Fun to put pumpkins in, or try to pull each other. After trying to pull 2 wagons at the same time, Owen ordered Nana to pull one for a little ways.
We had a great morning. Lots of running around and fresh air--Owen took a super-long nap that afternoon, so the trip was worth it on so many levels. (The piece of pie at the Bluebonnet in Marble Falls on the way home was a treat too!)

OWEN is TWO!!!

Owen turned two on October 8th and we had a party for family and a few close friends the following Sunday. Here are some very out-of-order pictures. (We had a train theme which you'll see glimpses of.)

NayNay (Nathan) Murray and his momma Christal. Nathan is starting to say all sorts of words and is trying to stand up out of a crawl, so it won't be long before he and Owen can really terrorize each other!
Me and my bro Alex and his honey Diedre in from Lubbock. See--adults can have fun at a kiddo's birthday party!
Cousin Bailey and friend Emmy playing with the really neat easel (white-board side) that Owen got for his birthday from Bee and JoJo.
Emmy sporting Owen's construction goggles (she had just taken off the hard-hat that came with the tool-kit). So much fun! Owen also got a doctor kit...so he's already got several career choices being presented to him!
Careers aside, Owen is truck man. All kinds of truck, but specifically firetrucks. Here is a new one that is compatible with his megablocks...such a hit! (Speaking of trucks: When Owen wakes up in the morning, he usually calls out for me. When I go into the room, he doesn't say hi or good morning he sort of yells "truck vroom vroom!" as if he's been dreaming about trucks and waiting for someone to come in so he can tell us about them.)
This is his "kissy face"...not sure what provoked him. If you know my mom (Bee)--you'll know that this is a genetic gift he has...
For the first half of the party, Owen pretty much ignored everyone else and worked diligently to separate the cluster of balloons we had. He would pull on a string to set a balloon free (often entangling it worse first), then he would walk it to a specific part of the room and say "right here" and leave it there. Very particular.
Here is sweet Rebecca in her party dress, being held by my dear friend Stephanie who was in town for the weekend for our 10-year high-school reunion (a blog post in itself). It was great to have her around both because we always have fun, but because she was my right-hand-woman in pulling the party off!
Here is Owen's train cake. Steph and I had a lot of fun making it. I think with the amount of candy I bought to decorate it (75% of which you probably don't see in the picture because we didn't use it) it probably would have been cheaper just to buy one...but a lot less fun!
Here is Owen on his actual birthday eating his first of 2 cupcakes after refusing to eat any dinner...what the heck, it was his birthday. :)

And here is Owen blowing out his candles (or rather, spitting on the cake while I blew out the candles). Everyone was piled in our office/playroom and he is standing on the chair behind our desk...I think he was a little overwhelmed by the number of people and attention so he sort of, well...you'll see.

We thought the party was a lot of fun, both for the kiddos and the adults. The only bad part was that it served as a petri dish for a "bad bug" (Owen's words) that got a LOT of us sick...(Me, Bee, JoJo, Owen, Grandpa Stan, Luke, Mel...and then other people that these people came in contact with). Yuck! (And no, it was nothing in the food, although it did cross our minds!) The next week was pretty rough with lots of sickness and Kyle out of town on a grand elk-hunting expedition with his dad and brother. Anyways, he's back now (no elk--sigh) and we're all feeling better and catching up on life. Special thanks to the grandparents who all stepped up to help take care of us even though they were under the weather as well. Oh, to live near family! :)

Beautiful Girl (beautiful photos)

I am tempted to feel guilty because we already have FAR fewer photos of Rebecca than of Owen...such is life with two under two. BUT...Owen definitely didn't have such beautiful photos for his birth announcement. Our friend Chelsie took these (the photos, and did the announcements...3 options, we chose the 3rd). Aren't they GORGEOUS? (She needs to go into business for herself!)

Rebecca is two months old now (her doctor's appt is tomorrow so I'll have some growth details to share after that). She i such a sweetheart. Her disposition is so sweet and easy. She has started really really paying attention to faces and trying soooo hard to communicate with her face (moving her mouth around, looking like she trying to mimic faces, talk, etc.). She has started cooing some which is sooo sweet to hear. Also, she has started smiling back at faces--actually making eye contact with you and smiling at you. It's awesome. (Incidentally, she smiled at me for the first time about 30 minutes after Owen puked all over me last week when we were all sick...that was a significant improvement in our morning!) Let's see, what else. Oh, she loves getting a bath (a girl thing?)--Owen cried through his baths for what seemed like months! And she is definitely our little snuggler baby. We thought Owen loved to be snuggled up on someone, and he did, but Rebecca seems to like it even more! As far as sleeping goes, she had a rough week last week (we all did) where she was up until 1-2 in the morning, but I think that was an anomoly. She's usually to sleep between 10-12 and wakes up 1-3 times during the night, which is manageable. The crazy thing is that I'm much less "on top of things" when it comes to monitoring her sleeping/eating. With Owen I kept the little log they have you start in the hospital going for 6 months to the day. (Obsessive-compulsive much? Yes!) With Rebecca, I stopped keeping track of it at 6 weeks!!! I'd say that's quite an improvement on my part...thanks darling girl!
