Kid Stuff

I think I've been neglecting any sort of fall updates because its too stinking hot here to acknowledge that its actually fall...but alas.

Went with Dahdo and Pam to Pam's mom's place outside Comfort over one of the weekends that Kyle was in Wyoming - played in the river for the day. Rebecca liked to push the limit of how far she was allowed to go.
Kyle got back from his trip just in time to go to our school's Fall Family Social. Owen was keenly aware that Kyle hadn't been - he had either had to work or was on a trip - and it was very very important to him that our entire family went since it is, after all, the fall FAMILY social.
 Getting ready
 Picnic style
 And some face paint.
Speaking of face painting...this is what Rebecca came home looking like after she went with some sweet neighbors to a monarch butterfly festival - she is a butterfly (and yes, she's on the potty).
One Friday night Kyle was working and we took an outing to go walk around the lake (at least part of the way) to feed the ducks. Well, it was too hot out for the ducks, so after we survived the walk back we had smoothies for dinner. Win-win.
(How is Maggie's so face dirty from a walk?)
Random father-daughter time where Rebecca wanted to make a "doctor drawing" of the human body. Several organ systems represented.
A sweet neighbor surprised Maggie with a little minion hat - that she loves to wear even though its still 95. Minion hat for the win.
One day a week Rebecca gets out of school about 1.5 hours earlier than Maggie (and Owen) so we have a standing lunch date. We were interrupted right after we got our food the first week because Maggie was "sick" and we had to go get her from school. So Rebecca wanted a do-over at the same place - she says we got busted up the first time. She said we even had to order the same things. This week she wants to go to the place with the giant hot dogs (aka Costco). She's a fun date.
Carlos stayed with us for a few days on a few occasions in early fall. Always fun to have Uncle Carlos around.
Especially when he wants to do the dirty work of parenting like pull Rebecca's tooth. She asked for it and then chose the method (string tied to doorknob, tied to tooth).
Unfortunately the string broke so they went to the ol' standby yank it out method. Ugh.
She is the cutest snagliest tooth 6 year old ever...pics to follow.

I Love The 80s...Happy Birthday to Me

Most of my friends know that one of my favorite times of the year is Halloween - and not just because I love candy corn. But because my sweet husband year after year lets me dress him up. Well, this year my birthday was non different. To make it even better, like Halloween, it was a social event - we roped friends into dressing up too! We ate our favorite pizza in town, listened to a rad 80s playlist and played some 80s "scene-it" (like trivial pursuit).

My get-up: legit high-top black rebok's of my moms, for real 80s wooden necklace (also mom's) and a vintage jacket from etsy (+ shoulder pads). I am basically the love-child of my mom in 1984 and Cindy Lauper.
Kyle kept his beard until the party - and although he and I would have considered him keeping it into the fall/winter - it was sacrificed for the good of the 80s party. See how much he loves me? :)

At some point we'll have to resurrect this look - so many costume possibilities with a scruffy 'stache like this one.
Oh but it gets better. 80s tennis pro + fanny pack. You're welcome.
The lovely couple.
Other Mezgers (Luke = Back to the Future) + preppy Davises
Totally Rad Fosheas + Rockin' Schwarzes (Bo = White Men Can't Jump)
Kyle + Maneesh = Brothers
Neon Sidhya & Maneesh
Preppy Murrays + oh-my-goodness Carlos (That's a tape player with a Van Halen cassette...)
Brother Alex = John Bender in Breakfast Club + Deidre = Flash Dance!
A scene from the movie: John Bender talks to Brian Johnson
And of course a couple of selfies - apparently Katie and I need to coordinate our smoochy duck faces.
Wig transfer from Carlos to Kyle = EPIC.
A few fun group shots.
It was so fun to see everyone go all out and be silly. Made me feel loved. :)
Just so you know we're not completely crazy - Kyle cut the mustache off the next morning.

Until next year...

Kyle & Dan - Men of the Mountains

Kyle took a trip to the Wind River Range in western Wyoming with his college roommate Dan, who lives with his family in Denver. We always miss him when he's gone, but its nice to have the dining room table move back to normal from packing/weighing/measuring/REI central.

...And I know he comes back refreshed after having spent time in God's creation with his friends. I can't tell you all his stories...but I can share some of his pictures.
They planned to (and successfully did) fish for their dinner several times.
 Dan the Man.

Not a bad place to wake up to.
This is what Kyle came home looking like (actually this may have been a couple of weeks later). What a hunky mountain man. :)
