In mid April I went on Owen's 2nd grade field trip to Washington-on-the-Brazos, where the TX declaration of independence was signed. We went to a working "1850s" farm located at the home of the 4th and final President of Texas and then to the actual site of the declaration signing.
Our docents (what must their lives be like in real life?)!
Very interesting preserved/restored farmhouse of the 4th/final TX President whose name I can't remember and no one knows.
The girls all liked the clothes washing station - the boys didn't.
Learning about yokes for oxen.
Bevo's cousin
The (recreated) building where the declaration was signed.
The octogenarian docent who was very kind but mostly talked about rum and the many uses of it and how much the men back in the 1850s like rum...helpful. He even started off by asking the kids - who's heard of rum? (Hands raised...)
Owen and some sweet boys in his class.
It was a big day on the bus and walking around but it was a good day. Always thankful for these special times with one of our kids one-on-one, even if there are 60 other classmates!
