Nana's Driveway

All of us are really excited to see Nana's new house (built by Uncle Luke, aka Mezger Homes, aka Bob the Builder) in the final stages. Today the concrete for the driveway was poured - which means it was time to leave some hand and foot prints! Considering the big event took place in 100 degree heat during naptime the kids did really well.

Isn't there a saying about watching cement dry??? Here we are waiting...
Uncle Luke writing the grandkids' names.
Owen wasn't happy about Bailey going first - since he's bigger, how can she be older???
Owen.
Rebecca ran out into some wettish cement earlier - luckily it was wet enough the workers could fix it - so Luke has her in a pretty tight grip.

We decided to do footprints for Blake and Maggie.

Maggie slept through the entire event.
Luke and Mel each left a thumb print for Baby Girl B.
In two days we found out their baby is a girl (!) and we know the initials...
What a special driveway. What a blessing our family is.

It's a Girl!

No, Maggie is not going to have a little sister (whew!), but she is going to have another little GIRL COUSIN! Luke and Mel are having a Girl! That'll make 2 boys and 4 girls on the Mezger side (right now the only side for all of us).

One of the things I adore about my sister-in-law is her delight in a good party...she loves to plan fun gatherings for friends and family as much as I do. Yesterday's "baby gender reveal" party was no exception - such a treat! Check out her blog for more details.

They announced (and found out themselves - brave souls that they are) what they were having by cutting into this cake while we all watched. Pink means girl!

Everyone at the party wore pink if they thought the baby was going to be a girl or blue for a boy. Looks like Mel was right!

And since it was only 106 degrees, they had lots of water fun for the kiddos. Here is two-time big sis Bailey mastering the slip-n-slide.
Owen trying to give Bailey a push.
Bailey riding Owen "like a horse".
I forgot about the promise of water activities so I dressed Rebecca in a pink dress - which she promptly took off as soon as we got there (after going through the sprinkler and into the pool first).
Nana couldn't pass up a little snuggle time with her littlest grandbabe - Maggie - especially since she won't be the baby in the family for long! (As you can see - Nana thought Baby B would be a boy, and Maggie was voting for a girl.)
Can't wait to meet Baby Girl B!

Saturday at The Dock

We are blessed to have extended family who are generous with cool places they own. This morning the five of us loaded up and drove to (Great) Uncle Doug's dock on Lake LBJ (Granite Shoals side) to do a little fishing. (Here are a few iPhone pics.)

Kyle and Owen got some quiet time on the dock while me and the girls hung out in the van and finished our breakfast while we watched a Dora - this way the fish didn't get scared away immediately and father and son had a chance to actually catch something!

Their first catch.
Owen is surprisingly good at the casting, waiting and reeling, but he's is still a little funny about touching the fish.
Once the girls joined in, the fishing got good - we caught a total of five little perches!
Rebecca was all about touching Mr. Fish.
Me and Becca with our first catch.
We released them all at the end - but kept them in the fish cooler until we were ready to go - so the kids could watch them. Rebecca liked to say "Hello!" up close and personal. At one point I was afraid she was going to blow bubbles in the water. That would have been progress at the swimming pool, but just gross here. She also like to (gently) kick the cooler to stir them up and watch them swim around and around.
Between the overcast skies and the breeze on the dock it was really pleasant out - I'm honestly surprised I can say that! Owen and Rebecca had a blast and Maggie (as usual) slept through the whole event - what a trooper! Makes me excited for some more outdoor adventures (camping???) in the fall when it cools off...

Maggie's 1 month update...and those other two!

I can hardly believe that our little Maggie is almost 6 weeks old! We had her 1-month check-up last Tuesday (at about 5 weeks old, because everything we do takes longer now). As her pediatrician said, "she doesn't miss a meal"! She weighed in at 10 lbs 12 oz putting her in the 90-97% range. For a girl who hadn't reached birth weight at two weeks...she has surely caught up! She is also tall - 22 3/4 in (90-97%).

As far as personality and activity - right now she's just starting to have a lot more awake/alert periods where you can tell she's intently checking out her surroundings - fans, faces, movement. But she still sleeps a lot. We're still not on much of a schedule, although she's given me some good long stretches at night (one was over 7 hours)! She handles all the attention from brother and sister like a champ; and she seems to give me some grace when it comes to not meeting her needs immediately when I'm tending to one of the older ones - at least that's what I tell myself! She has just started to enjoy her "jungle chair" (bouncy) instead of always being held...but if I want to get anything done, the Ergo is the way to go - even around the house.

All in all, she's a sweet baby and we're looking forward to the next month as she starts to interact with us more and more!

Here are a few shots from last week (I think these were while she was contently sleeping in the shade at the pool while O & R did their swim lessons). She's suffering from that horrible baby acne that both the others had...but even today I'm noticing that it's starting to improve. Yea!

Maggie will never have known life without her two big siblings. She'll always be used to having to share. And that goes for blog posts too. One of these days we'll have more to say about her than the others, but today isn't that day.

Bee & JoJo headed to Colorado (for a month!) on Friday but on her way out, Bee had to stop by and give Rebecca a much needed pedicure.
Unbelievable how still she sits for this...
Blowing on her toes.
Later that morning we went to a little 2-year old birthday party at our local Chick Fil A. It happened to be "National Cow Appreciation Day" so we donned our best cow attire (homemade in a jiffy with an old black t-shirt and a glue gun) so we could get our free food!
All three little Moo Cows. (Maggie is a strawberry milk cow.)

Okay, here are all the other things I've been meaning to "mention"...

Owen
  •  Some of Owen's favorite new words/phrases: No way Jose; You betcha; Now you're talkin'; Exactly (ezatly); Interesting...everything is interesting. Like - let's read the most interesting book; Momma- look at this interesting train I made; I picked out an interesting shirt to wear...He is also a big fan of pointing out when others are right or wrong - something we're working to restrain.
  • Kyle took Owen to Longhorn Caverns week before last for his first cave tour. If you see Owen, be sure to ask him about it. He'd love to tell you ALL about how 1) it's not a bear cave, 2) they have "staladatites" (stalactites) and you shouldn't touch them because they'll stop growing.
  • Owen has become a BIG fan of knock-knock jokes. The problem is we haven't exactly taken the time to teach him how a knock knock joke should actually work so most of his sound something like this...
    • Knock knock - who's there? - banana - banana who? - aren't you glad I didn't say dump truck again?
    • Knock knock - who's there? - fire truck - fire truck who? - aren't you glad I didn't say mopac train again?
    • Knock knock - who's there? - baby sister - baby sister who? - aren't you glad I didn't say fork again?
  • When he told a knock knock joke involving poop the other day (his first "dirty" joke) I told him not to tell "poop jokes" and he quickly informed me that it wasn't a "poop joke," it was a knock knock joke!
Rebecca
  •  Rebecca (and Owen) are going to a little mother's day out program at a neighborhood church - this is R's first school experience. (Owen calls it "summer school".) She's doing pretty well although I was honestly a little surprised that my little extrovert actually cried a few times at drop off. They tell me she is very clingy with her backpack and lunch box. I think they're bribing her with cookies to get her to give them up - one at a time. Then she plays and has a great time!
  • New words/phrases? Where to start!? I'm constantly realizing that Rebecca just said something that I didn't realize she could say (and has probably been saying for a while, I just couldn't totally understand). Here are some of my favorites right now...
    • no ma'am (she's heard this one a time or two)
    • doe (for go) - whenever I get her dressed she looks up at me and asks Doe?  to ask if/where we're going
    • poo, wah-wah? (going to the pool?)
    • wedy! (ready)
    • adin! (again)
    • moe (mole) -  likes to point mine out (at least she doesn't think they're boo boo's anymore)
    • ho ho (how she asks - more like demands - to hold Maggie)
    • and some two syllable ones: money (as she digs through Bee's purse), dinner
    • No biting/body/party/potty...we're not exactly sure which one she's saying when. For a while she would walk around the house saying "no bity, no ma'am" and I thought she was saying "biting" and Owen thought she was saying "body" and then we started to think she was saying "party" or "potty". She's probably saying all of them (depending on the context) - it's just hard to tell the difference. These are Owen's favorite things to get her to say.
    • And my favorite: wa-u (Love you). Melt a momma's heart.
  • She knows her right and left. And we did not teach her that. One day she just showed us - right hand, left hand. How awesome is that?
  • Rebecca is in to knock knock jokes too. She knows one and here's how it goes.
    • Not not - who's there? Nana - Nana who? [No answer - just lots of giggling]. We have some work to do with both of them...
  • Rebecca is very concerned with other people's boo boo's? Although she has learned that moles aren't boo boo's, she will point out a week-old bruise and frown and say boo boo in the saddest most compassionate voice you've ever heard - very very sad until you tell her it's all okay. Then she'll kiss it anyways. She gets VERY upset when she sees a cartoon character on TV get a boo boo (even if they didn't really get one) - I'm talking tears people, real tears!
  • She loves flowers. She smells them even when they're not real. If you have a flower printed on your shirt or drawn on a piece of paper, Rebecca wants to smell it.
  • She and Owen had a sleepover at Bee and JoJo's before they left for Colorado. It was a comedy of errors that culminated in my mom relaxing in the other room after she has put O & R to bed and thinking to herself...do I hear water? When she went in to check on them, O told her that he couldn't sleep because R was making too much noise. And that she was. Becuase she was in the attached bathroom, fully clothed, in the shower, with the water running, just having a grand ol' time. No wonder my mom had to get away for a month!
  • Even though we try to keep the bedtime routines simple, I can't help but want to sit and sing with both these kiddos (still my babies, right?). Well, R's favorite song as of late has been "Jesus loves the little children"...but it makes her laugh! She giggles through the whole thing - especially the "red and yellow, black and white" part. Why is this so amusing to her?
Whew. I feel all caught up now. Be sure to check out the other new posts below...

Happy 10th of July!

I mean Fourth of July (just a little late). Kyle had the day off (woohoo!) so we tried our hand at a number of little outings...

On our way to the Tarrytown Neighborhood Parade.
Bee carrying Maggie.
Okay, so we totally missed the parade. Got to the "finish line" right as it was ending...but we have a game plan for next year, and it includes over-the-top decorated tricycles and wagons (courtesy of Bee) and showing up on time to participate...live and learn.

It was really hot. Rebecca saying - here Daddy, where this hat.
Owen spotted some nifty "old-timey" vehicles. Next time we'll actually see them in the parade.
The group shot amidst the chaos of Reed Park. That was as good as we could do. We didn't hang around long - it was crazy hot at 10am. But at least we tried.
Later that day we enjoyed some pool time (for Kyle, O & R) at Deep Eddy with Dahdo and Pam. Maggie and I chilled in the shade and enjoyed the view.
La La Land and Dahdo - wanna go back in?
Aqua Boy after showing off in the pool.
Incidentally - Owen wanted to know if there was going to be cake, since it was our Country's birthday. Next year I think there should be!

Aqua Boy & La La Land

Thanks to Bee, Owen and Rebecca didn't have to forgo swim lessons this summer just because life is crazy with a new baby around. It has been quite the undertaking - twice a week for 5 weeks - Bee has picked them up and schleped them to lessons with Miss Amy at "the J" (Dell Jewish Community Center). (Also thanks to Nana and the Dahdo/Pam Unit for doing reinforcement pool time - frequency is key!)

My motivation was (honestly) just getting them out of the house a little bit, knowing that they'd enjoy some time at the pool. I didn't really expect to see Owen turn in to AQUA BOY!

A  couple lessons in, my mom announced that there had been a break through! He went from still being pretty timid to all of a sudden swimming! And when Kyle and I went this past Thursday for their last lesson, we saw it! A-mazing! Thanks so much Bee and Miss Amy!!!

Owen and Miss Amy
Starting the lesson off with the bar bell thingy...face in the water!
Kicking!

Arm Strokes!
Now for a little fun diving for rings on the steps. Totally underwater!!!
Jumping in - ALL the way under! (NO fear!)
HIGH FIVE!
While Owen may have transformed into Aqua Boy, Rebecca took a more laid back approach...It may have been said during one lesson that she was a little bit "IN LA LA LAND". But hey, she's not afraid. She loves the water...and the swimming will come at some point. Probably next summer.
Doing some tummy work.
More interested in Miss Amy's hat.

Figured out she could get the rings without putting her face in. Clever girl.
Gonna blow some bubbles - aka, spit in the water.
HIGH FIVE!
Watchu lookin' at?

Thanks to Everest Road Photography

I have tons of posts to do but life has been a little crazy around here recently...sort of a toddler-version cholera outbreak...so hopefully I'll catch up soon...

But couldn't wait to share this first glimpse of photos of sweet Maggie and crazy Big Bro and Big Sis with everyone.

Jessica and Julie were not only pros but so fun to work with - it just felt like they were playing with the kids (and happened to be taking awesome pics).

Check out the link above and leave a comment on their blog to help us get free photos. Plus, you'll want to peruse the rest of their blog/website for inspiration. They're awesome.

One month old stats and June/July update coming soon...hopefully!
