Texas Mammal Day for 1st grade. The mom-win was that Rebecca was excited to be a white-tailed deer, making double-use of the deer antlers I made for my 2016 Halloween costume. The mom-surprise was that Rebecca did
not want to practice her little "speech" with me. For some kids that would mean they might not know what to say or not have prepared or would get stuck. For my kid that meant it was the most hysterical and amazing 5 minutes (yes, she went on and on and on)...she truly had prepared. And her little performer personality came alive. And she maybe made up a few colorful details just to make it more interesting (on the fly, of course). Best part was when she veered off script and started talking about what good sausage they make and what it looks like when you field dress one. All these sweet little first grader faces and their sweet parents! It was amazing. I got several texts from moms afterwards telling me it was the highlight of their day/week (and their kids did their presentations too)! Watch out world..
