My dear friend Stephanie organized a little girls' getaway to Denver last weekend to celebrate her 30th birthday and just get away. It was such a good time. The perfect combination of relaxation and pampering (really nice hotel, pedicures, fun food) and activity (white water rafting--yes, I rafted; and hiking).
Here we are with our guide David...Stephanie was THIS close to falling in but saved herself with a little help from Becky who she hit in the head with her paddle to show her appreciation. I have no idea what river we were on...I sort of blanked out when I realized I had no choice but to violate my self-imposed ban on all things "downhill, fast and out of control". I surprised myself and actually had a lot of fun (probably helped by the fact that the water was really low so even the class 4 rapids seemed pretty tame). And really, how can you not have a good time in an oft-warn stinky wetsuit with matching booties?
(I'm the one in the "wus" seat in the back.)
We didn't have time to go to Rocky Mountain National Park but found a great (i.e. popular = crowded) hike at Chataqua -- The Flatirons.
It's a good thing Steph was strong enough to hold up that falling wall!
The Arch at the top of our hike with a great view of the Flatirons.
The Four Girls: Catherine (Steph's younger sister, in her last year of dental school in San Antonio, coming to Mexico with Kyle and I whether she wants to or not!), Becky (Steph's friend from church, 2nd grade teacher, dog whisperer, oreo-caramel-apple introducer--thank you!), me, Steph (world traveler extraordinaire, birthday girl, adventurous leader, AA upgrader--thank you!).
Thanks for the great weekend Ladies. It was just what the doctor ordered.
