Spring 2010 Family Photo Shoot

We won (i.e. bought) a photography session at a silent auction for Owen's pres-school last spring. This was our first time to be photographed as a family. We took the photos back in March (before it got too hot) at the State Capitol grounds. Here are some of our favorites.

Bee came to help.

The photographer, Amanda McGlothlin, was great--look her up if you're in the Austin area. Her style is candid, photo-journalistic and she's very sweet. We think she got some great shots.

First Birthday Photos

What's a milestone birthday without a little "professional" mall photography? Here are the results of Rebecca's first solo photoshoot. :)

Wearing her tutu outfit (thanks Auntie Joyce), looking at herself in a mirror and smiling. G-I-R-L.

Big girl walking: smelling the roses, pushing her (new) baby.
She's wearing our favorite every-day outfit.
Sweet toothy smile. Curls peeking out from behind the ears.
Artsy cupcake eating shot. Resemble anyone to you?
 (Her brother at 1 year)

For the concerned relatives and friends...the 1 year doctor stats:
  • 22 lbs 8 oz (75th %tile)
  • 29.5 inches tall (75th %tile)

Happy First Birthday Rebecca!!

Rebecca turned one year old on Tuesday and we had a  "little" "family" birthday party. I kept it really simple--just ask Kyle.  :)  Seriously, I tried my best, but I just can't help myself when it comes to birthday parties. There wasn't really a theme, except I found this fabric I loved (retro pink and orange paisley with little birds) and I pretty much used it everywhere...

A little pre-party play with the balloons...such a big hit!!!

Her "Happy Birthday Rebecca" banner. Hopefully I won't be sick of this fabric next year and I can use it again...no promises.

Her "throne"--I have to say I was very pleased with myself with this little project
Welcome to the party!
Bright orange sunflowers, pale pink gerber daisies.
Katie--teacher of all things craft/creative/cute or delicious--came over the night before the party and shared her super easy marshmallow fondant recipe with me. Can you tell those are little birds on the cupcakes?
 Her "smash" cake.
This is the little dress I made her. Oh, the saga. The first one I made was too small--think baby girdle. I made #2 and it was way too big...so I tightened the waste band, added some straps and viola! it's a dress! (Several people suggested I reverse those steps an she can wear it as a skirt next year...it's quite possible!) It was a love-hate thing by the end of it. I just had to finish it. I realize its a little flamenco-dancer-esque, but that's what happens when you sew late into the night watching Project Runway reruns... I even sustained a little "sewing injury"--a band of knots around my right shoulder blade. Now that's love. :)

ALL the people watching + the singing + the cake with candle = wide-eyed Rebecca
It took her a little while, but she finally got into it.
In my fabric craze / birthday haze, I made the girl guests little ruffle-tank party favors. Um, yeah -- I'll be making some for me too. (Unlike Rebecca's party dress these tanks were super easy and really quick --something you really can't mess up!)
Owen had no problem at the toy store helping me pick out a gift for Rebecca (baby doll and stroller) - he totally understood that it was her birthday and that meant the presents were for her, not him. But of course one of the grandparents brought him a little something. He used his "claw" to pick up wrapping paper off the floor and put in the trash. What a good little helper! (Sorry for the dark photo.)

Rebecca got lots of fun gifts - adorable clothes mostly (isn't it too much fun to shop for girls?!). Aunt Mel just HAD to get her some Halloween pj's--too cute!
Dada helping Rebecca open her first piece of jewelry (a sweet little charm bracelet). Here we go...

She liked the tissue paper.

Uncle Alex and Deidre with Ollie (who matches in her pale pink)!

Too hot to have the party outside, but we had to at least get a few shots with the birthday princess. My baby and me. :)
  The four of us.
happy birthday Rebecca - we love you!

Owen's birthday is in October. I already have a plan, and this time it really is really really simple. No really - you can trust me!
