Random August Stuff
(Plus 3 other new posts below.)
Kyle has been obsessed about giving Owen a haircut. He abandoned his "yellow pages" policy and took up the clippers. All he needed to do was tell me Owen needed a haircut. Well...what we can say about the end result is that it would have been a decent haircut had Kyle realized that he only had one guard length for the clippers which made blending a real challenge. Given this rather sizable handicap he really did a good job. But we both got a chuckle out of it (all the while telling Owen it looked great) - I'll be taking him back to Great Clips. :)
It's hot. Let's ride bikes.
Rebecca had a random 24 hour bug that put her out like this.
Owen lost his 2nd tooth and was SO SNEAKY about it! He lost it in the morning, put it on a shelf (so it was safe - because his first one accidentally got put in the trash during dinner clean-up and Kyle had to dig it out) and didn't tell me. At lunch at chick-fil-A I noticed that it was gone and thought it had come out just then in a nugget...he started giggling. Wondered when I was going to notice! (In my defense there was already an almost fully grown tooth behind it so the gap wasn't very noticeable!)
Maggie in the chick-fil-A tunnel. So thankful they can all go play in that crazy room and I run very little risk of having to come in for a rescue (in part because Maggie is finally big enough and in part because I would send Owen in for a rescue). Life is good, folks.
And end of the summer hurah - the Thinkery (Austin Children's Museum). Me and 3 kids. Deep breath.
Luckily the window painting/squeagy room is right next to...
The build stuff with random stuff room...
We left and I was honestly surprised at how uneventful/successful the morning had been! With it getting easier to get out and do stuff with the kids its almost a shame that school is starting back. Almost a shame.
Random - Maggie wearing Owen's Christmas jammies and loving it.
So, new development: Maggie and Rebecca are almost playing together and much as they fight! :)
This is Maggie enjoying Rebecca's birthday dinner at Luby's. And the two of them pretending to be babies in a bed together on the floor in my room. If only they actually went to bed this easily.
My mom Bee traded in her tiny beemer for a smallish beemer SUV - hurray for leg room! The kids got an inaugural ride around the neighborhood without boosters or anything. Ah, new car smell!
*Hey mom - send me the photo I took on your phone of all of y'all in the old convertable?!
May add some more photos form my camera (these are cell phone) later, but here are the kids doing a little fishing at an awesome ranch on the Pedernales outside of Johnson City. Our dear friends Dave and Angie and their kiddos have been stateside for the summer but are returning to north Africa. We got to go to a going away afternoon at her family's place and it was awesome. Super cool spot (I think I've decided that Johnson City is my favorite small town around Austin) and great folks. Kyle did some one-on-one fishing with Owen while I wrangled the girls. Then each of them got a turn. Maggie was the first to catch something, then R, then O - in reverse order of how much they cared and how hard they worked. Life is a rough teacher sometimes!
*Actually, yes, I will be posting more from this little day trip because we have some great shots of Rebecca lost at see on Shamu...more on that later.
